Fleeting Magic?- Chapter 2

If you’ve forgotten what’s happened, go back and read chapter 1!

The choice has been made…

Arin gripped the gift the Tami girl had left them tightly in his hand. He knew what they had to do, but did Tyler agree was the real question.

He looked up at his friend and saw the same determination in his eyes that he felt. They both nodded, coming to a silent agreement.

“Arin? Tyler?” The Headmaster was giving them a strange look, watching their interaction.

“Answer them, you brats! The Headmaster just saved your lives!”

“Travis, please,” Headmaster Lumin held out a hand, blocking the Professor from getting closer. “What is it, you two? You’re both acting a bit… strange.”

“Is that really anything new?” The Professor muttered, just loud enough for the three to hear.

“Headmaster… we’re sorry.” Arin lifted his head and looked up at them. “We can’t just…”

“We’re following them.” Tyler stated, grabbing the talisman out of Arin’s hand.

“What?!” Both the Headmaster and the Professor were shocked to hear this.

“What are you saying, you have to stay here!” The Headmaster’s eyes showed their worry and more than that, their fear.

Fleeting Magic?- Chapter 1

nameless-writing:

Ok so I’m trying something new with this. Please, PLEASE read it all the way through to the end. I have a reason for wanting this.

In this world, there are two types of people. Literally. Like, that’s not a joke. There are those who can use magic, and those that can’t. It’s split pretty much right down the middle, too. Those who can use magic, typically learn they can at a young age, sometimes right from birth. Being able to use magic is basically a mutation. Your parents don’t need to be able to use magic in order for you to be born with magical power and vice versa. It’s a mutation. It just happens.

Kids who awaken their magical powers are sent to a magic school in a pocket dimension. This school has seven grades, but they aren’t called grades, they’re called years. It’s easier that way, or so the headmaster says. In your first year, you learn how to control your magic and learn basic spells at age ten. In your second year, you pick your path. The rest of the years are spent mastering that path, and by your seventh year, age seventeen, you’re considered a true “master”.

You can become a Tamer; a magician who tames beasts and, once tamed, can summon them at any time. You can become a Summoner; similar to a Tamer, only you call upon demons, you use blood, and they don’t need to be tamed. The more blood you use, the higher power of a demon you can call upon. Or you can become an Elemental; which basically encompasses all other forms of magic, some in the strangest ways possible (like teleportation magic, fortune telling, healing, etc…). They’re mainly known for being the majority of the magic users in the world and for their mastery of an element, and only one element (e.g.: fire, water, earth, air, etc…). It’s possible to master more than one, but it uses a lot of magical power and typically, the student will graduate long before ever mastering more than two elements.

For now, we’ll be focusing on two students of this special academy. These two students are in the middle of their last year at this academy, and are (technically) at the top of their class. They have a lot of power, but have basically no control over it whatsoever. They’re Elementals (since it was decided that it was way too dangerous for them to become anything else), one specializing in water and the other in fire.

Despite this difference in their elements, these two are best friends and partners. They will forever have each other’s back. Arin Taylor and Tyler Morten. The undisputed kings of the school. No one was willing to go against them, not even the teachers. Our story begins on a normal day, a day just like any other…
